Dr. Pieter Veenstra - Team leader Hanze Honours College & Program Manager Lectorate Excellence in Higher Education, The Netherlands
Pieter Veenstra is team manager for Hanze Honours College (HHC) which is part of Hanze University of Applied Sciences (UAS), Groningen. Hanze Honours College is a small staff organization that works with honours coordinators of the schools to develop and implement honours education throughout the university. Pieter has extensive experience in honours education specifically and with higher education in general. Along with his team, Pieter is responsible for honours education and programmes at UAS.
In 2009 the HHC started the development of honours education and – programmes in our university with the support of money from the Ministry of Education. We now offer two types of honours programs: honours minors and honours talent programmes (HTP). The HTP is an extracurricular program of 30 ects. Recently we redesigned the HTP. It is more flexible, more interdisciplinary and offers the opportunity to make innovative education. We are now busy to implement this new design in all our schools so we will offer sixteen different HTP’s.
During the sessions we'll explain why we redesigned our HTP, how the new design looks and what are the initial experiences of both students and teachers.
